MEMBERSHIP AT UNITY NORTH

Why become a member of Unity North?
When you become a member, you’ll participate in a new-member ceremony on a Sunday, where you are welcomed into membership.  It is a touching ceremony that is meaningful to those being welcomed into membership as well as the Unity North family who welcome them. 

Being a member allows you to vote at the annual meeting for candidates for the Board of Trustees of the church and for any other church business that requires a membership vote, such as a change in the church by-laws or an expenditure of $75,000 or more.

In addition, being a member allows you to become a Chaplain –a lay minister who prays with people after the Sunday service and makes hospital, nursing home, and home calls. Chaplains must be members of the church and must also participate in yearly training. 

When you have been a member for at least a year, you are eligible to run for a seat on the Unity North Board of Trustees.

You do not need to be a member to volunteer for any of the many ministries at Unity North, including our Kidz Church program for Children and Youth.  Please see our “Ministries” page for the many ways to serve at Unity North.

WANT TO BECOME A MEMBER

OF UNITY NORTH ATLANTA CHURCH?

              It’s an easy, process. This class explores the five basic spiritual principles that make up Unity’s belief system:

1. God is absolute good, everywhere present, all-powerful, all-knowing.
2. Human beings have a spark of divinity within them. Their very essence is of God, and therefore they are inherently good.
3. Human beings create their experience by the activity of their thinking. Everything in your material world has its beginning in thought.
4. Prayer and meditation are the best ways to align with God. Unity’s affirmative prayer process uses denials and affirmations as its primary tools.
5. Knowing and understanding these principles are not enough. A person must also live the truth that he or she knows.

You will receive an orientation about Unity North Atlanta Church – how it is governed, how it is supported, and how you can find a place to practice sacred service in this spiritual family.

After you have completed the class, you are given the opportunity to participate in the New Member Ceremony. This beautiful installation ritual is held during a Sunday service, usually at 11:15. You will be welcomed into the Unity North spiritual community by all those attending that Sunday’s service.

Membership entitles you to take part in governance of the church. It allows you to vote for members of the Board of Trustees, for members of the Nominating Team that chooses a slate for Board election, and approval of any single (unbudgeted) church expense totaling $75,000 or more. Membership is required for those seeking to run for the Board and is required for those wishing to become a Chaplain or those who work with our children and youth.
