UNITY NORTH, ANDREW YOUNG RAISE MORE THAN $15,000 FOR MALAWI VILLAGE
Despite tough economic conditions, Unity North Atlanta Church and Ambassador Andrew Young raised more than $15,000 on Sunday to help the residents of several remote African villages drink clean water.
More than 120 people attended the fund-raiser featuring Young on Sunday afternoon. Voluntary donations raised a total of $15,500. The amount raised should help the villages dig two separate wells.
A former Unity North congregant, Joseph Mwandidya, a native of southern Malawi, attended the fund-raiser and expressed gratitude for the aid.
“I just came from the villages and the people are very happy to hear about the big blessing they are about to receive,” Mwandidya said.
He said that the southern Malawi villages of Mchacha, Nyamithuthu, Nthukuso, Nthole, and Magulugulu will all benefit from the project. Currently, the villagers must walk many miles to find clean drinking water.
Senior Minister Nancy Worth said the church community is thrilled to lend a helping hand to the Malawian village.
“We are building a bridge between their hearts and ours,” she said.
Mwandidya attended Unity North while enrolled at Georgia State University in Atlanta. He received a Masters Degree in Education from Georgia State last year.
All of the funds will go directly toward the Malawi well project.
Unity North Atlanta Church is a non-denominational spiritual community located at 4255 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta, Georgia 30066. Everyone is welcome.
